100 Black Women That Made Their Mark
100 Black Women Who Have Made Their Mark
Leicester Gallery, De Montfort University
October 2023 - January 2024
Selected as one of five Black female artists by Serendipity Institute of Black Arts and Heritage, I created 21 portraits celebrating Black women's contributions to British society. Curated by Pawlet Brookes MBE, this groundbreaking exhibition addresses the historical underrepresentation of Black women in British portraiture.
My multidisciplinary approach involved personal interviews with each sitter, translating their stories into varied artistic expressions. The collection ranges from traditional painted portraits to innovative installations, including a fragranced apothecary cabinet, digital lightbox illustration, carnival float sculpture, and stained glass window.
These works are now part of Serendipity Institute's Living Archive, accompanied by a podcast series featuring sitter interviews.
