“Ubuntu” Mural SADDACA Community Centre (2024)
As an artist deeply connected to my heritage and community, I am proud to have been commissioned to create the “Ubuntu” mural for SADACCA, an iconic landmark that embodies resilience, history, and hope for Sheffield’s African and Caribbean community. This mural celebrates SADACCA’s legacy as a sanctuary and cultural hub, reflecting its pivotal role in providing a safe space, in challenging discrimination, and preserving African and Caribbean history through initiatives like the Bantu Archive.
This mural was designed to honour SADACCA’s ethos of empowerment and unity, weaving together its history, its present role in fostering education and mental health support, and its aspirations for the future. This project holds personal significance for me, as SADACCA welcomed my own family during the 80s, making it a cornerstone of our shared story in Sheffield. Through vibrant and symbolic imagery, the digitally designed mural invites the next generation to embrace their heritage and join in advancing this iconic institution’s mission.
